DJ Safety, INC. was founded in 1996 by Retired Navy
Lieutenant Commander Joseph Hansen and wife Darlene (DEIST) Hansen, to fill a
niche for high-level design engineering applications in specific industries.
Targeted wre the aviation, aerospace, film, and theme ride industries, as well
as the specialty of racing safety assemblies. Some of the key projects he has
completed to date are: development and fabrication of ballistic containment for
the eighty foot tall, vertical printing presses at the Los Angeles Times,
design and development of an auxiliary turbine containment devise for the NASA
F-16X lead wing project, development and
manufacture for Boeing/Rocketdyne of heat reflecting containment and ballistic test
containment devices for the Delta rocket, development for Disney Imagineering
of a netting system to secure personal belongings on park rides, design and
development of a hydraulic containment system for Caterpillar, also the design
and development with John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab of an electronic
containment system for the weapon systems onboard nuclear submarines. Mr.
Hansen retired from the US Navy in 1989 after serving for 22 years in the
Nuclear Submarine Force. He served as Electronic Radar Technician; Nuclear
Reactor Operator, Nuclear System Repair Officer, Electrical Repair Officer,
Electronics Repair Officer, Chief Engineer, Executive officer and Commanding
Officer. Following his retirement from the Navy, he became General Manager of
Deist Safety Equipment, retaining that position from 1989-2000.
